How to use Concern

Sometimes you just need to let someone know there’s something you are concerned about. We won’t panic and go crazy, we check if it’s an issue and then find the right person to help. Select the level of your concern from the faces above, fill in the details and let us know.

Is that OK?

 

Concerns:

Are you seeing something that you’re not sure is OK?

Example:

You think the Year 9 boys are sharing around a ‘torrented’ copy of a new movie.

Solutions:

This level of concern is about raising our awareness and we’ll keep an eye out and may monitor the situation.

Concerns:

You’ve seen it and you want it to stop. You don’t feel comfortable confronting the persons involved.

Example:

Two Year 10 girls have the password to another students account and are taking control of her computer remotely.

Solutions:

We will verify that the the incident has occurred, check the level of damage and then decide what to do.

Something is wrong

 

Concerns:

Don’t really know how bad it is but pretty sure help is needed, you’re afraid someone might get hurt.

Example:

You’ve heard a Year 7 girl on Snapchat had a screenshot taken that accidentally shows down her top and the pic is being shared around.

Solutions:

We would start to actively monitor the situation, verify the incident and if needed speak to the persons of concern. We will do everything we can to keep your concern anonymous.

Concerns:

Illegal? … maybe? Needs to be dealt with swiftly, it’s only going to get worse until something is done.

Example:

A video has shown up on YouTube of a student being bullied and physically abused by other students.

Or

You're worried that you or somebody you know is thinking of hurting themself.

Solutions:

We will verify and confirm the incident. Then we will provide support for the persons of concern. Actively following up with all persons involved in the incident.
You may be required to speak with us but we will still do everything we can to keep your concern anonymous.

Concerns:

Urgent, you need Help Now! It’s time sensitive and you need help figuring out what to do next.

Example:

A friend in your Year 9 class has been sexting with an adult, you haven’t seen the pics but they’ve told you they’re planning on meeting up with them tonight.

Or

You or somebody you know has hurt themself.

Solutions:

It concerns something illegal or a serious and immediate threat of danger. An sms will be sent alerting us and we will directly contact you and possibly the persons of concern, to try and help.
